Self‑managed participants receive an invoice after each session whereas Plan‑managed participants have invoices sent directly to their plan manager.
Private health Insurance rebates:
Rebates may apply on psychology costs, but this depends on your provider, whether psychology is included in your extras, and the amount of yearly limit you have.
For understanding and submitting these rebates, we reccomend you contact or refer to your private insurance policy. More info about Private Health Insurance coverage of mental health support can also be found here.
Hardship:
Equity and access are important at Brisbane Psychologists.
As a service, we reserve some reduced‑fee places for clients who are experiencing a range of vulnerabilities including full-time study and financial stress and who otherwise who not be able to access support.
If you think this might apply to you or a client you are wanting to refer to us, please feel welcome to reach out via phone or email to discuss further.
Cancellations & Non-Attendance
We understand that life can be unpredictable. At Brisbane Psychologists we like to keep appointments available for all clients, and so we require at least 24 hours notice if you intend to cancel a confirmed appointment. This does not need to be within business hours (e.g., you can cancel a Monday appointment on Sunday). If no notice is given and the appointment is not attended, this may then mean a 'Short Notice Cancellation' fee is applied to your next invoice. If you’re unsure how cancellations apply to your situation, such as chronic health challenges or arranging childcare, or have any questions, please feel welcome to discuss with the Psychologist.
Rescheduling
If you need to reschedule your appointment, you are welcome to complete this via calling, emailing, or proccesing this via the Halaxy Client Portal if you have or create an account (https://www.halaxy.com/a/login). Please where possible provide at least 24 hours notice.
Fee Review
Our fees are reviewed annually to ensure they remain fair, transparent, and in line with professional standards set by psychology bodies, Medicare and the NDIS.
Forms
Below are a range of our forms that relate to rebates or costings.
Our Assessment Services
Booking a Psychologist Assessment:
You do not need a referall for assessment by a psychologist and can book in by directly being in contact. We offer diagnostic and psychological assessments for a range of areas for children, youth, and young adults including:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD),
Intellectual/Cognitive functioning (including Intellectual Disability & Giftedness),
Specific Learning Disorders.
How the Assessment Process Works:
Free 15 minute initial phone call - this will explore your needs and help answer any questions about costs or whats involved.
Initial clinical interview – Your psychologist will gather detailed background information about your developmental, educational and psychosocial history (parents/carers attend if under age 18).
Testing and assessment – We administer standardised psychometric tests and may provide questionnaires or forms for completion by relevant others (e.g., childcare staff, teachers, parents).
Scoring and report preparation – We review previous reports and collaborate with other professionals as needed, then integrate the results into a tailored individual report.
Feedback session & report – We meet with you (and parents/carers if applicable) to go through the results, explain the findings, and provide recommendations and next-step strategies. A full report will be provided once all fees have been settled.
In exploring whether we are the right service for you, we can email you a handout to explain the assessment process, estimated timeframes and fees, and ways to help you or a young person feel comfortable ahead of a first visit.
We also offer ways to pay for assessment via instalments across the testing process.
Pricing (indicative):
Please note that these fees are estimates. Final pricing will vary based on the complexity of the assessment and any additional consultations required. Furthermore, psychologist assessment and testing does not attract a Medicare rebate, however the initial and feedback may be eligible for a Medicare-rebate if you have a GP Mental Health Plan.
Autism diagnostic assessment & report: from $2,600,
Autism + ADHD combined diagnostic assessment & report: from $3,120,
Intellectual/cognitive assessment: from $1,820,
Learning Disorder (dyslexia) Psychoeducational assessment: from $2,600,
ADHD assessment (children and youth): from $1,850-2,080,
ADHD assessment (young adults): from $1,650.
Important note: An assessment does not always guarantee a specific diagnosis, and in some cases, results require further monitoring or investigation, and referral to other specalists such as a Paediatrician.
Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan cover therapy sessions only. Medicare does not provide rebates for psychological assessments such as ADHD, cognitive, or learning assessments. These assessments require specialised testing that is not included in the Medicare Better Access program. Your psychologist can use your MHTP sessions for therapeutic support related to your mental health, but any assessment sessions are billed privately.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, you can book an appointment without a referral. However, if you want to claim a rebate through Medicare Better Access, you’ll need a referral from your GP (or psychiatrist or paediatrician) and a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Once you have a valid referral and are registered under the Better Access scheme, you pay the full session fee at the time of appointment and then claim the rebate via Medicare, or the receptionist will submit the claim online for you. You can do this for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. Cancellations made with less notice will incur a fee to ensure we can offer our waitlisted clients sessions that become available last minute.
Yes. If you have private health cover with “psychology” or “mental health services” included, you may be eligible for a rebate from your insurer. Please check with your provider first. If you are also claiming Medicare for the same session, then you cannot claim a private health rebate for that session.
Yes. We provide secure telehealth appointments for many of our services so you can receive support from home or any part of Australia. The same referral and rebate rules generally apply.
We offer individual sessions with clinical psychologists and general psychologists. We have an online booking system to make it easier to find an appointment time that suits you - see here. Please be in touch if these options are needed for you but not available on our online booking system.
Sessions are 50 minutes in duration unless otherwise stated (such as a psychological assessment or testing session). We will advise you if a different session length is required (for example, initial assessments or intake to complete your psychological testing and report).
Absolutely. If you have any questions about fees, rebates, or costs, please contact us and we book a no cost 15 minute intake session to ensure you understand the supports of Brisbane Psychologists and feel confident with proceeding to book your first session.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Most clients benefit from starting therapy at least once a week, but others are looking to book fortnightly or monthly depending on their goals, availability and progress. We’ll talk with you about what’s most helpful for you during your intake or first session.
